The youth takeover the Lincoln Memorial as speakers from around the nation share the podium to speak on the deaths of their family members.
Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech took place on August 28th, 1963 on those very same steps that thousands of people set foot on.
The 57th Anniversary of the March On Washington was an event not many were sure would take place as we are still dealing with COVID-19.
BUT, not even the pandemic put a stop to the event in honor of the King.
Various members of Las Vegas Liberation were in attendance for the March on Washington. Some members camped outside of the Memorial as early as 3 a.m. to ensure they would have a place in line due to the large crowd the night before.
Items packed for their adventure included: cameras, drinks, food, signs (made the night before), BLM & Progress Pride flags AND umbrellas to cover up from the sun. The weather was the complete opposite of what the Las Vegas residents were accustomed to. What started as a slightly gloomy morning, went on to be a 90 degree, 57 percent humidity, sweaty day that they weren’t ready for!
Thousands in attendance viewing the speeches made by many BLM community leaders, figures, supporters and survivors. Al Sharpton, Martin Luther King lll, Family members of George Floyd, Jacob Blake & Breonna Taylor all took the podium to speak on the issues at hand and the pain that 2020 has brought to them.
The crowds were full of visible emotion hearing the stories the family members shared with them. One of the more hard hitting speeches was that of Letetra Widman, the sister of Jacob Blake.

The three of us made our way through the huge crowds of spectators with the final goal to reach the top of the Lincoln Memorial to better capture the event as a whole.
