Most people have never heard of Troy, Montana. It’s a small town in the state of Montana with the population of around 938 people. Most, think that Bullhead City is a “small” place. But, compared to Troy, its pretty big. Bullhead City is now home to over 40 thousand people.
Meet 25 year old, Matt Huffman who is originally from Troy, Montana.
He’s been a local for a couple years now. You may know him from Bullhead City Junior High or Mohave High School. While in high school Matt took on the competitive sport of wrestling. He wrestled over 50 matches while in high school. Post high school, he stayed physically active working out for about a full year before enrolling in Jiu-Jitsu with Rob Anvareyan at Mad Dogs. He stayed with Anvareyan for 6 months and then went under Rick Lucero’s wing for the next 4 years.
“Jiu-Jitsu was similar to wrestling,” Matt says, “what brought me to Lucero‘s Jiu-Jitsu Academy was I wanted to not only better my wrestling but wanted to master the art of Jiu-Jitsu. I wanted to be a world champ. With the knowledge of the sport Professor Rick Lucero has, with all of his accomplishments, he is probably the most humble, down to earth guy, I’ve met and I couldn’t think of better place to be!”
Matt is currently a purple belt under Rick Lucero at the Lucero Jiu-Jitsu Academy. He will be making his match debut as a purple belt this month on the 11th for WFC: World Fighting Championships at the Avi Resort & Casino. Matt has competed in over 12 tournaments during his Jiu-Jitsu career. Having gained over 14 gold medals, he's ready to put himself to the test in front of his hometown crowd.
“If you’re trying to be the best and train with the best, Lucero Jiu-Jitsu Academy is we’re it’s at. All we do is grind, if you don’t try how would you know?
N.T.F.B. is the motto No Time For Breaks.”
