As the month comes to an end, we have two more profiles for Team Lucero BJJ. Thank you to everyone who’s liked and/or shared our stories. Thank you to everyone who came out for WFC: World Fighting Championships fight night at the Avi Resort & Casino .
Today we give the spotlight to one of the most successful fighters to come out of the Lucero Academy.
Standing at just over 6 feet tall and 200 plus pounds.
We present to you, the brown belt Jiu-Jitsu scrapper, Shane “Mojave Warrior” Mapatis.
Shane “Mojave Warrior” Mapatis is currently the undefeated, Heavyweight Champion in two different Mixed-Martial Arts companies under Rick Lucero’s training. He holds a record at 12 wins and 0 losses, making him the number 1 amateur Heavyweight fighter on the West Coast. You’ve probably seen his face on the billboards, headlining the local MMA events at the Avi Resort & Casino under WFC and events in Las Vegas for TuffNUff. At only 24 years old he’s proven to be a real competitor in the sport.
Within the last year, Mapatis has captured the attention of the “big leagues” giving him the opportunity to fight for a contract and become a professional Mixed-Martial Arts fighter. He has motivated & inspired local teens to take a dive into the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Mixed-Martial Arts. Mapatis started Jiu-Jitsu training at the age of 15 with Rick Lucero. “My cousin told me he was going to give it a try and he came to school the next day with scratches, bruises and a big smile on his face, telling me I gotta try it,” says Mapatis. “He dragged me in. I’m happy he did, because I don't know what I would be doing today”.
Mapatis had his first MMA fight days after turning 18 with only fifteen days of preparation thus the Mojave Warrior was born.
Mapatis is currently training to make his comeback after an injury that kept him from competing.
He will be competing this coming month of June in Las Vegas, defending his Tuff-N-Uff Heavyweight title and making his transition into the professional world within the next year.
Keep an eye on the Mojave Warrior.
