As many American’s awaited the Presidential Election results, a couple Las Vegas organizers and residents met in front of the infamous Lloyd D. George Courthouse on Las Vegas Blvd. to speak on mutual aid.
Couple different organizations introduced themselves to newcomers & discussed what people can do to help the community without the help / dependence of the 2 party system and it’s “winner”.
The change we’re all hoping for isn’t going to come from the election winner. It starts locally.
The megaphone was shared by many speakers including :
@EmmaGoldmanSOS reading a message (from @AnarchoKai) on how to build within the community.
Joey from Food Not Bombs (+ various orgs) who has helped build tiny huts on the west side with several volunteers and donations.
Ares from Las Vegas Liberation who’ve helped feed hundreds of houseless residents at the encampment and around the city weekly.
Des & LJ from More Than A Hashtag who’ve been making changes in the community and setting up multiple events in the name of those lost to police brutality.
We also had presentations on the Las Vegas Town Fridge Project , which now has 2 refrigerators in the city that are filled daily with food donations from the community. Also, an introduction to SWAN Nevada which is a community led movement that helps sex workers state wide.
